AKRON, Ohio — A man was killed and two others were injured as the result of a crash that happened early Saturday morning in Akron.
According to Akron police, a Chevy Equinox with three occupants was traveling eastbound on W. North Street at approximately 3:05 a.m. As the car crossed the railroad tracks, it went airborne, causing its 26-year-old driver to lose control of the vehicle. According to investigators, the car then slid sideways and slammed into a tree.
The front-seat passenger, a 26-year-old woman, was ejected from the vehicle. A 29-year-old man sitting in the rear passenger seat was pinned inside the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene. The victim's name is not being released at this time.
The driver and the front seat passenger were transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Police believe that alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
An investigation remains ongoing.
