“During the robbery, the suspect shot at a 21-year-old employee, who returned fire and struck the robber,” according to the Akron Police Department. “The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.”

The 35-year-old suspect arrived at an Akron hospital moments later with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Police say he’s listed in serious, but stable condition and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

While his name has not been released, police say he faces robbery and other charges stemming from the incident.

A 33-year-old man -- who police say dropped the suspect off at the hospital -- was detained and later charged with robbery and booked into the Summit County Jail in connection with his role in the incident. He’s been identified as Rayshoun Bruce.

The Taco Bell employee, who was also not named by police, was not hurt during the incident.

Police say the suspect vehicle and other evidence were recovered.

“The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are working to determine the connection, if any, to the other area robberies,” according to police.
