62-year-old woman dies after being hit by car in Akron

AKRON, Ohio — A 62-year-old woman has died after Akron police say she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the roadway last week.

Akron police say the alleged hit-and-run happened around 12:52 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of East Market Street.

The woman was thrown nearly 80 feet upon impact and was taken to Summa Health Akron City Hospital where she later died around 3 p.m.

In an update provided Monday morning, police say the woman has been identified as Debora Weihrauch.

The crash remains under investigation, and police say it's believed that speed was a contributing factor in the accident. 

A witness described the suspect's vehicle involved as a silver SUV of an unknown make/model.
