Man killed in Akron shooting: Here's what police are saying

Akron police say the shooting happened in the 1100 block of Chandler Avenue. No arrests have been made at this time.

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department is looking to identify the suspect or suspects of a murder that took place at a city residence on Monday afternoon.

At approximately 4:40 p.m., Akron police officers responded to the 1100 block of Chandler Avenue after a shooting took place. When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old man with apparent gunshot wounds in the backyard of the property.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Trieg Austin Schwab from Akron. The Summit County Medical Examiner reports Schwab died from gunshot wounds to the torso. 

Not much is known about why the shooting may have taken place. According to a preliminary investigation, residents in the nearby area said yelling could be heard before the gunshots.

An investigation into the incident to determine suspects in the shooting is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked by the Akron Police Department to call their Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490 or 330-375-2TIP. Text messages with tips on the incident can also be sent to 274637.
