NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio — Editor's note: The video in the player above is from a story published on Jan 4, 2021.
The North Royalton Police Department has arrested and charged 50-year-old Richard Munice of Parma in the death of Cari Smith, whose body was discovered in a Geneva Township landfill on June 25.
On Monday, Muncie was in court and was ordered to be held without bond.
50-year-old Smith was found deceased inside of a landfill Friday afternoon by waste management officials after being reported missing, according to North Royalton officials.
Smith's cause of death has yet to be determined.
North Royalton officials tell 3News that Smith and Muncie knew each other and had a "strained relationship," and were able to determine the 50-year-old man as a suspect early after Smith's body was found Friday, thanks to "technology."
Following the discovery of Smith's body, the waste management company issued the following statement:
"We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the first responders who are assisting at the scene," said Tanisha Sanders, Director of Government Affairs and Communications. "We appreciate your patience as we investigate this incident, and encourage further questions be directed toward the authorities at this time."
