ASHTABULA COUNTY, Ohio — A spokesperson for the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) tells 3News they have been asked to investigate a deadly shooting involving authorities in Ashtabula County.
The situation started around 7 p.m. Friday when authorities say they received a call regarding a male pointing a gun at his neighbors and their children on Tryon Road in Saybrook Township.
When deputies from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, the male allegedly came out of the house pointing a gun at deputies and threatening them before going back inside.
Several attempts to negotiate with the male failed and he did not respond to verbal commands from the deputies, according to a press release from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.
The Ashtabula, Geauga and Lake counties SWAT team was dispatched to assist due to the nature of the call and the weapons involved.
“The SWAT team tried to negotiate with the subject for several hours to no avail,” according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office. “The subject then began shooting out of the window at the deputies, striking the SWAT vehicles. Deputies returned fire, subsequently neutralizing the threat.”
Ohio BCI says no officers were hurt during the incident.
