CLEVELAND — U.S. Coast Guard members battled a fire that broke out aboard a commercial ship at Ashtabula Harbor on Friday afternoon.
The U.S.C.G. Great Lakes said in a social media post at 3 p.m. that the fire was "ongoing."
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the commercial vessel is called the "Cuyahoga." The master and the crew of the ship are safe and accounted for.
The Coast Guard deployed boats and a helicopter and said Ashtabula County is "utilizing maximum county and city fire department resources to put out the fire."
The captain of the port issued a safety zone around the vessel, the Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard has deployed marine inspectors and investigators to look into the cause of the fire as well as the NTSB.
