CANTON, Ohio — The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is investigating after a Canton police officer was involved in a deadly shooting late Tuesday night.
Canton police say it happened just after 10 p.m. when an officer was "investigating a report of a person with a gun" in the 900 block of Alan Page Drive SE.
Police have identified the person who was shot as 24-year-old Zachary J. Fornash of Minvera. He was taken to Aultman Hospital where he later died.
Police say the officer was not hurt.
3News also received the following statement about the situation from spokesperson Steve Irwin of the Ohio Attorney General's Office:
BCI was requested by the Canton PD to investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred last evening.
No officers were injured.
BCI’s investigation is active and ongoing. I do not have any further details to share at this time.
Irwin did not have anymore details regarding the incident.
