CLEVELAND — A Northeast Ohio tragedy is now the subject of a new Netflix documentary.
The fatal shootings of 30-year-old Malissa Williams and 43-year-old Timothy Russell at the hands of 13 Cleveland Police officers garnered national attention back in 2012.
The two were killed after a 22-minute police chase that spanned 23 miles from downtown Cleveland to East Cleveland. The incident ended with officers firing 137 shots in their car.
Nine years later, "137 Shots," is the title of the Netflix documentary exploring the deadly shooting.
Netflix describes the documentary as an in-depth look at the scrutiny law enforcement faces "as Americans demand justice after police violence claims multiple Black lives in Cleveland."
Local journalist Connie Schultz, former prosecutor Timothy McGinty, former Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association President Steve Loomis and Tamir Rice's mother Samaria Rice are all featured in the documentary.
The film is directed by Michael Milano..
"137 Shots" will premiere on Netflix Wednesday, December 15.
