Attorney for Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson's grandson denies he had any involvement in homicide that led police to his home

One person at Jackson's home was taken into custody and later released.

CLEVELAND — The attorney for Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson's grandson stresses that her client had no involvement in a homicide that led detectives to his home this week.

Attorney Sydney Saffold held a news conference from her downtown Cleveland office Friday to "provide clarification" on the subject, though few questions were answered.

"We have no information about it, we're not involved with the ongoing investigation and we don't have any further details to provide," Saffold said. "...It's 100% a function of having no information."

The deadly shooting happened outside the First Class Barber Shop at W. 51st Street and Clark Avenue Wednesday. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the victim as 30-year-old Anthony Parra, of Warrensville Heights.

Officers quickly identified one suspect at the scene and arrested him, according to a statement by police. His identity has not been released.

Detectives investigating the murder visited Jackson's house Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. There, they took into custody a juvenile, who was later questioned and released to a parent. Police also towed a vehicle they believe is connected to the crime.

Saffold stressed that Jackson was not involved in the crime, adding that she has advised him not to provide any statements to law enforcement.

"I have no further information to give to you guys, other than he has no connection to this crime and is not a suspect attached to it, and he has made no statements to police or law enforcement pertaining to it," she said.

Saffold also said she is unsure whose truck was towed from Jackson's property. When asked if Jackson knows the arrested suspect or the victim, Saffold replied, "Not to my knowledge."

Jackson and his city staff have declined to comment on the case or discuss the mayor’s efforts to reduce violence in the city.
