Cleveland Metropolitan School District to shift to remote learning for Thursday and Friday amid winter storm

CMSD CEO Eric Gordon says each school has a plan for remote learning. Students should log on and follow their class schedules

CLEVELAND — Anticipating severe winter weather in the city in the next couple of days, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District has announced that it will shift to remote learning for Thursday and Friday of this week.

"Each of our schools has a plan for remote learning. Students should log on and follow their class schedules. Students must participate in remote learning during this time to be marked present. If you or your child does not know their logins or other needed information, request it from your school," wrote CMSD CEO Eric Gordon in a letter to district families.

Gordon added that the district is considering the issue of possible power outages occurring during the storm. If a student's home is without power during remote learning, or if students do not have their devices at home, the students will be given hard copies of makeup work when they return to their school buildings. If that work is properly completed and turned in, the students will be marked as present.

CMSD's PreK-8 parent-teacher conferences, both in person and virtually, will continue Wednesday until 7 p.m. as planned. PreK-8 parents who have not yet scheduled conferences may do so by calling their schools. High school students will have Thursday off as scheduled. High school conferences will go on as planned from 12:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, but only in a virtual format. To set up a virtual high school parent-teacher conference, call your school.
