CLEVELAND — Law enforcement officials from various departments marched through the streets of downtown Cleveland Friday morning as part of Police Week 2023.
The Cleveland police memorial parade stepped off from Lakeside Avenue at East 12th Street around 10:30 a.m., which we streamed live in the video below.
“Parade participants include officers from local, county, state and federal agencies throughout the U.S. and Canada, and surviving family members of officers who made the supreme sacrifice,” according to the event schedule.
The parade led up to a memorial service from Police Memorial Square (Huntington Park).
"When a law enforcement officer dies in the line of duty, the loss reverberates throughout the community," the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society states on their site. "The family loses a beloved member, the law enforcement agency loses a respected colleague and the community loses the services of an officer dedicated to its protection."
The Memorial Society was first established in 1985.
"The Police Memorial Society keeps the promise of its founders by honoring the service of fallen officers to ensure they are not forgotten, and by providing assistance and emotional support to their families and friends."

The parade comes one day after Cleveland police held their annual Badge Case Ceremony, which is used to memorialize fallen officers by enshrining their badge in the department's monument.
