CLEVELAND — As authorities continue searching for the suspect involved in a deadly hit-and-run incident that killed a 7-year-old boy last week, the Cleveland Division of Police released images Wednesday morning of a person of interest in hopes the public can help identify him.
Police say it was around 7:20 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, when the child -- who was riding his skateboard in the driveway of a parking lot in the 16000 block of Lakeshore Boulevard -- was struck by a vehicle that’s described as a large SUV with tinted windows.
“The vehicle continued out of the driveway and left the scene,” according to a press release from Cleveland police.
The boy was taken to the hospital where he later died. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office later identified the child as Amir Prewitt.
On Saturday, Cleveland police said authorities had located the Mercedes GLS450 4MATIC that was allegedly involved in the incident. It was parked and unoccupied upon its discovery.
A vigil was held earlier this week in Amir's memory.
"I appreciate everyone coming, I appreciate the love and condolences, but I don't know who did this," his mother told 3News. "The killer could be amongst me right now and I wouldn't know, because nobody wants to speak up."
