CLEVELAND — As the Cleveland Division of Police battles an increase in crime rates with fewer officers, the department recently held a recruiting event last month.
How was the turnout? A total of 361 candidates came to the December recruitment event. This includes the following:
- Ages 21-39: 253
- Ages 40-49: 44
- Ages 50 and older: 26
- Undisclosed age: 38
Of those candidates, we’re told that 256 people were given pre-conditional offers and are currently in the background check process.
Those with pre-conditional offers “are contingent upon the successful completion of the following procedures”:
- A physical examination and laboratory testing
- A comprehensive psychological evaluation
- A behavioral-based interview
- In-depth background investigation
- Completion of the Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS) certification
- Successful completion of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA)
"If any selection procedure components find candidates unsuitable for employment or appointment to the Cleveland Police Academy, this pre-conditional offer shall be withdrawn," according to Cleveland police.
