The City of Cleveland has announced that they have issued a request for proposal (RFP) for a new Cleveland Division of Police headquarters.
The ultimate goal is to relocate the current police headquarters from the Justice Center on Ontario Street to a new, permanent location that includes separate storage space, garages and offices for the Cleveland Division of Police.
“The purpose of this RFP is to ensure we find the best price, timing, location, and quality for the Cleveland Division of Police headquarters,” said Cleveland’s Chief of Integrated Development Jeff Epstein. “We are doing our due diligence in order to make sure we have the best options on the table to meet the needs of our police department.”
According to the City of Cleveland, the requirements for the new location include the following:
- Must be in the City of Cleveland
- Within a 2.5-mile radius of Cleveland City Hall
- Close to freeway access
- Space for secure parking for 450 passenger cars
- Cleveland Division of Police must be the only occupant of the facility
The City also mentioned that they have not ruled out the Opportunity Corridor at the East 75th Street location originally proposed in 2019. Still, the City is looking at other alternatives due to the "changing economy, real estate market, the rising cost of building materials, labor, and supply chain considerations."
The full RFP can be viewed here.
