The fire, which occurred at a residence at 7609 Jeffries Ave. in Cleveland, resulted in the death of an 18-month-old and a one-month-old. Three other children, the oldest of which was 14-years-old, escaped from the house, while another who lives at the house was at school during the time of the fire.
The three children who escaped from the fire were transported to Marymount Hospital, along with their mother, who was not home at the time of the fire.
According to the Cleveland Police Department, Cleveland Fire companies responded to the fire at 9:50 a.m. Upon arrival, it was found that the second floor of the house had become fully involved in the fire. The 18-month-old child and one-month-old baby were pronounced dead at the scene.
“This is a heartbreaking situation for the family,” said Cleveland City Councilman Kevin Bishop, whose ward includes the area. “This is just a tragedy.”
