Jamieson Ritter's fellow Cleveland police officers honor him with memorial run

The group marched from police headquarters to the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial before running around the block.

CLEVELAND — Following the shooting death of Cleveland Police Officer Jamieson Ritter, some of his fellow members of the department held a memorial run in his honor on Saturday.

Participants met at the Justice Center at 9 a.m. for stretching before marching to the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial on Lakeside Avenue. Following a prayer and moment of silence, they ran around the block in formation.

Those who organized the run are from the Cleveland Police Academy's 147th graduating class, which joined the force nearly eight months after Ritter himself graduated in November of 2020. Several of them crossed paths with Ritter at the academy.

Ritter was a member of the Cleveland Division of Police for more than three years and was recently named co-Officer of the Month for his actions to help save the lives of others. He was shot and killed during the early morning hours of July 4 while trying to arrest a felonious assault suspect.

Saturday's memorial run took place two days before a memorial service for Ritter at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist downtown. Ritter's funeral is scheduled to be held out of state, according to the department.
