CLEVELAND โ The Cleveland Division of Police has revealed the details of remembrance services for Officer Jamieson Ritter, who was shot and killed in the line of duty during the early morning hours of July 4.
Officials have confirmed a memorial service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist downtown. You can watch live coverage HERE.
There will also be a procession taking Ritter's body to the church, with the details of the route available below.
According to the department, Ritter's actual funeral will take place out of state. While the exact location has not been revealed, it will presumably be somewhere in New York, with Ritter having been born and raised in the Rochester area.
Ritter died Thursday after being shot in Cleveland's Hough neighborhood. Authorities say he and other officers were seeking a suspect wanted for felonious assault in an area suburb.
"Officers arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with the male," Cleveland Police Chief Annie Todd told reporters hours after the incident. "The male did exit the house and tried to leave the area on a bicycle. Officers attempted to arrest the male when the male produced a firearm and began firing multiple times."
The man accused of killing Ritter has been identified as 24-year-old De'Lawnte Hardy, whom prosecutors claim shot his grandmother last week in Garfield Heights using her gun. He now faces a charge of aggravated murder and is being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail on a $5 million bond.
Besides the memorial service, some of Ritter's fellow officers hosted a memorial run Saturday morning near the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial. On Sunday in Brooklyn, two boys also set up a lemonade stand with plans to give the proceeds to Ritter's family.
