CLEVELAND — Passengers who ride Greyhound or Barons Bus to get in and out of Cleveland will soon be utilizing a new station that will be located outside of the city.
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) recently approved a lease agreement with Barons Bus Inc. that will relocate bus operations from Greyhound's historic Chester Avenue station to a new terminal in Brook Park.
The new bus station, to be constructed by Barons and shared by Greyhound, will be located in an overflow parking lot next to the GCRTA's Brookpark Rapid Station at 17510 Brookpark Road.
According to documents from the GCRTA, the lease is for 10 years with a pair of five-year options starting on Jan. 1, 2025. There is no official word as to when the new station will open.
In April, the Playhouse Square Foundation purchased the Greyhound bus station, which opened in 1948, for $3.35 million.
The property spans over 34,000 square feet, which will allow Playhouse Square to expand its footprint.
"We look forward to sharing our plans for the space when they are solidified," said Playhouse Square in a statement to 3News in April. "In the meantime, we are committed to respecting the historic integrity of the building and to working with the City of Cleveland and Greyhound to ensure the transition to Greyhound’s new base of operations occurs on a timetable that works for all parties. Details regarding the new location and timing will be announced by the City and Greyhound when finalized."
