CLEVELAND — Thousands of dollars have been raised for one of Cleveland's most notorious beer salesmen.
Les Flake, better known as "The Beer Guy" at Cleveland's sporting events, was injured last week. While Les eyes a return to work, so many in the community are lining up to help.
"Whether we've talked with him, taken a picture with him, or just heard him at the game. Cleveland recognizes hard work and they know that the guy has been grinding for 49 years," says Matt Vann, friend of 'The Beer Guy' and owner of "The Jolly Scholar" bar on the campus of Case Western Reserve University.
How much does Vann respect Les Flake? He named the light lager "Cold Beer Here" after him.
Last Friday, Les injured his knee. The man that has sold beer and put smiles on faces for almost half a century at Cleveland events has been told that there will be no more beer sales this season.
"I'm gonna be off work for awhile, that's for sure," Les says.
So this week, Vann started a GoFundMe to help out Les. Since Tuesday, more than 400 people have donated more than $14,000 to help Les.
"Les is 'The Beer Guy,' right? Whether you know his name or he's just 'The Beer Guy' to you, they're local treasures that are just specific to Cleveland," Vann adds.
"It's nice to know that people think that much of me and I'm only in their lives for a couple of hours maybe during the week," Les says.
