CLEVELAND — Residents of the Shorewood Apartments on Lakeshore Boulevard in Cleveland say they’re still seeing issues after storms damaged the complex in early August.
Tenants say the problems began when tornadoes and strong winds hit Northeast Ohio Aug. 6 and storms damaged the complex roof. When heavy rains hit Aug. 17, the ongoing issues were highlighted as residents saw water pour into their units and apartment halls.
“Water started dripping from my bathroom, my bedroom, my kitchen, my living room, damaging all type of electronics,,” said resident Darryl Lee. “So now, I gotta figure out how to replace those items.”
Lee says he’d only been living at the Shorewood Apartments for three days when the Aug. 17 storm hit, and he’s still navigating the damage.
Another tenant shared video with 3News of water dripping down her cabinets Wednesday. She says the new water came after heavy rain Tuesday night.
Smartland, the property management group in charge of the complex, tells 3News they’re doing their best to provide quick fixes and solutions for residents.
On a phone call, they said they fixed the roof temporarily while they make plans to completely replace it. They say they have maintenance crews working continuously to dry out the building and tear down any damaged walls.
They say they’re also moving tenants to units in the building that weren’t affected.
