30 residents evacuated after fire breaks out at University Circle apartment building

Evacuees were briefly placed on RTA buses to protect them from the inclement weather.

CLEVELAND — Officials with the Cleveland Division of Fire are investigating a fire that broke out at an apartment building in University Circle late Wednesday evening. 

According to Cleveland Fire Public Information Officer Lt. Mike Norman, the incident began at an apartment located in the 1900 block of Ford Drive when a fire broke out on the first floor.  

Smoke started to spread to other areas of the building and prompted an evacuation of more than two dozen residents. Dispatch says an estimated 30 people were evacuated.

Evacuees were placed on RTA buses to protect them from inclement weather. 

At this time, there are no reported injuries or EMS transports. 

No other information is available at this time.
