While the weather may not be the most ideal for a visit to the beach today, officials with Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District said the water quality at some of Lake Erie’s popular swim spots is listed as “good.”

Here are the test results for Friday, July 16:

Edgewater Beach: Good. The percent exceedance probability of the bacteriological criteria for Edgewater Beach is 20.4 percent. The predicted E. coli concentration for Edgewater Beach is 27 MPN/100mL.

Villa Angela Beach: The percent exceedance probability of the bacteriological criteria for Villa Angela Beach is 27.6 percent. The predicted E. coli concentration for Villa Angela Beach is 45 MPN/100mL.

“The percent probability that a beach will exceed the set threshold is calculated by the Virtual Beach 3.0 software based on beach conditions measured during sample collection,” the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District explains in a press release. “When the percent probability generated by Virtual Beach 3.0 exceeds 50 percent, the true E. coli concentration is expected to exceed the Bathing Water Recreational Criteria of 235 MPN/100mL. Increasing percent probability indicates an increased likelihood of a true exceedance of the recreational criteria and vice versa.”

But before you pack up and head to one of the beaches, you may want to keep the weather in mind as the National Weather Service has activated a Flash Flood Watch until 8 a.m. Saturday as heavy rain is expected to move throughout the region.
