What will the water quality be at Lake Erie beaches on Friday? Don't plan on swimming

Swimming probably isn't a good idea today.

CLEVELAND — EDITOR'S NOTE: The video in the player above is from a previous, unrelated story.

Don't plan on swimming as we head into the weekend. The predicted water quality for both Edgewater Beach and Villa Angela Beach is poor.

E. coli concentration in the water is expected to be high at Edgewater Beach on Friday, at 195 MPN/100mL, according to the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD)That's well above what it should be, and presents a hazard to swimmers.

E. coli concentration is also expected to be high at Villa Angela beach Friday. According to the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD), it is expected to be 1,793 MPN/100mL.

NEORSD uses modeling results generated by a program called Virtual Beach 3.0. The software does tend to underestimate the E. coli concentration, so NEORSD also incorporates data from previous years. So when the predicted E. coli concentration generated by Virtual Beach 3.0 exceeds these limits, the true E. coli concentration is expected to exceed the Bathing Water Recreational Criteria of 235 MPN/100mL.

NEORSD updates the water quality predictions daily. For that information, you can follow them on Twitter @NEORSDbeaches, or you can view the daily reports HERE.
