SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — Detectives are searching for answers in the death of a 91-year-old woman in South Euclid.
Essie May Henry was found outside of an apartment complex, across the street from her home on the corner of Colony and Warrensville Center roads on Nov. 4.
South Euclid police called her death suspicious at the time when they were called to the scene, but the medical examiner later confirmed it was a homicide. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner listed the case of death as blunt force injuries.
"There were bumps and bruises on her body," said Officer Joe Dilillo with the South Euclid Police Department.
Neighbors tell police that Henry was known to walk around the neighborhood often.
Police said Henry was found near a very busy street and someone may have seen or heard something – or possibly recovered any items that can help point to what happened. Detectives are searching for any information that can lead them to the person (or persons) responsible - and the possible motive.
"Anytime there's a loss of life, it's unacceptable, but a 91-year-old woman, it's troubling. It's concerning," said Dilillo.
A $5,000 reward is being offered by Crimestoppers for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
