AKRON

Information as of 9:12 a.m.

Early this morning, city staff became aware of issues caused by a faulty software update issued overnight by US cybersecurity firm, CrowdStrike. CrowdStrike has indicated this is not a security incident or cyberattack. The outage has impacted some city devices and servers although the core city services were not disrupted. Our 911 dispatch operations have maintained operation and are still working as intended. Critical functions like water and wastewater are up and running and experienced no serious disruption to service. IT personnel are working diligently to boot up other departments and systems. All city buildings remain open to public access today and all employees are reporting to work as normal.

Some city services may be slightly delayed this morning including 311 website access, Utilities Business Office, Income Tax, and city golf courses.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents as our staff work as quickly as possible to respond to this widespread outage,” said Mayor Malik. “Our critical and core city functions and services are working as intended and we expect to have all other functionality back up and running very soon. I want to express my sincere appreciation to our IT staff for their diligence which quickly caught these issues last night and their swift work at addressing the problems to provide a fix.”
