Euclid Police officer facing charges from 2018 put on administrative leave

EUCLID, Ohio — Euclid Police Department officer Demarkco Johnson has been placed on administrative leave after being indicted on multiple felony charges.

The charges that Johnson is facing occurred during his time working for the East Cleveland Police Department in the summer of 2018, three years prior to being hired by the Euclid Police Department.

Johnson is being charged with the following: 

  • Three counts of Bribery 
  • Four counts of Tampering with Records 
  • One count of Insurance Fraud

The Euclid Police Department released the following statement to 3News: 

"As a result of today’s indictment, Johnson has been placed on administrative leave. The Euclid Police Department will not provide further comment on the matter at this time. Any such comment might compromise the fundamental fairness and integrity of the ongoing legal process.

The Euclid Police Department thoroughly investigates the backgrounds of applicants prior to an offer of employment. The investigation includes a polygraph exam.  Our vetting and hiring process is thorough. We will continue to examine and evaluate the process in order to ensure the highest quality candidates for employment with our agency."
