CLEVELAND — There is new concern over the safety of corrections officers at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center after video shows an apparent attack.
It happened around 7:30 p.m. on a Monday in April.
Officers felt a rec room had become unruly. At one point, a teen is seen banging his fist on a chair.
When an officer tries to take him upstairs, they fall, and the teen is soon on top.
In the incident report, the officer claims he punched her with a closed fist in a cast while choking her with his other hand.
Another officer can be seen coming to her aid and punching the boy, before a third officer peels him off and takes him to his room.
Early last year, a riot at the center was so bad that guards called SWAT.
Three superintendents have since been assigned to the facility. One resigned after only hours on the job.
The union representing the officers worries for their safety and justice.
A spokesman said the teen who attacked the officer has since attacked another, along with roughly a dozen juveniles.
Records show the officer who first tried pulling him off her co-worker, however, was reprimanded by Children and Family Services.
The complaint will likely remain on her work record.
