CLEVELAND — If you checked your calendar today, you might have noticed that May 1 is only a week from Friday. It is the day that Ohio will begin slowly reopening.
On Sunday, some churches planned for what that might look like.
“Be together as a community, even if it means 6 feet apart,” said Jim Wilkes, pastor at Journey Community Church.
He said they are considering adding services to spread out their attendance.
“We are also considering ‘Do we check people’s temperature before they enter the facility just to make sure we are doing our best to stop the spread of COVID-19 virus?’” he said.
Other changes are coming sooner.
On Monday, the Rite Aid at 5795 State Road in Parma will open a self-swab testing site for coronavirus and conduct up to 200 tests per day. Patients must pre-register first.
At 2 p.m. Governor Mike DeWine will return with his daily briefing and could reveal whether schools in Ohio will stay closed for the remainder of the semester.
Selina Pagan of the Young Latino Network is also reminding voters that they have until Saturday to request a vote-by-mail application for the April 28th election.
“This is a democracy and we are deciding our future,” she said. “We are electing people who represent us the way we need to be represented.”
If you are a small business, you will want to know about a new grant opportunity. On Monday, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will begin accepting online applications for $5,000 grants for businesses with fewer than 20 employees working in certain zip codes.
This link will go live at noon: savesmallbusiness.com/#apply.
On Thursday, the Federal Communications Commission will look at possibly speeding up the internet. Their decision would give the public access to a WiFi band which had been reserved for utilities and could mean faster downloads and fewer dead zones.
