CLEVELAND — Cuyahoga County officials have confirmed that a prisoner at the jail died on Monday.
According to a county spokesperson, Shondo Moffitt collapsed at the Cuyahoga County Jail at around 12:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon. He had been in the facility since February 15 for failure to appear.
Moffitt was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where he later died.
The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau is investigating the incident. “On behalf of my department, I want the family and friends of Mr. Moffitt to know that our condolences on their loss are sincere and we will treat the investigation into this matter with all due care and concern," Cuyahoga County Sheriff Christopher Viland said in a statement.
A cause of death will be determined by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner following an autopsy.
