ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — Smoke filled the evening sky as flames ripped through the Rockport River Condominiums in Rocky River on Sunday.
The smoke was so intense that it was detected by our radar here at 3News.
“Radar is obviously looking for things that are moving that have a particle to them,” meteorologist Matt Wintz explains.
As we saw with Sunday’s fire, the radar showed a large blob of red stemming from the blaze that stretched upwards of nine miles from where it sparked on Hilliard Boulevard.
“You can see all that heavy, thick smoke we had all the way up toward Route 20 and then eventually out over the lake,” Wintz said.
The luxury condos were under construction and unoccupied at the time of the fire.
The fire also caused the temporary closure of several roadways -- including I-90.
Authorities say nobody was hurt in the incident.
