EUCLID, Ohio — Officials in Euclid say a fire inside of an apartment took the life of a 49-year-old man over the weekend.
According to a Facebook post from the Euclid Fire Department, crews responded to a report of a kitchen fire in an apartment in the 300 block of Babbitt Road at approximately 11:43 p.m. on Saturday. There was a report that a man was still inside the apartment amid the fire.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and located the man. He was taken to Cleveland Clinic-Euclid Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as Alfred L. Harper Jr.
No other injuries were reported.
The Euclid Fire Department says that crews were able to extinguish the flames and ventilated the apartment building. The department's Fire Investigation Unit is working with the State Fire Marshal's Office to determine a cause.
