8/22 Update: According to the Solon Police Department, a second suspect was taken into custody in relation to this carjacking on the morning of Monday, August 15.
Donteze Congress, 18, was arrested at his Maple Heights home. He was held on one charge of Aggravated Robbery.
An 18-year-old man from Maple Heights was taken into custody after stealing a car on Tuesday, August 9 during an armed robbery in Solon.
At around 1:38 p.m., Solon Police Officers responded to the 6600 block of Glenallen Avenue in Solon after a 62-year-old Beachwood man reported that two male suspects with handguns stole his black Volvo S90 sedan.
While the victim was driving on Glenallen Avenue, a gray Kia SUV hit his car from behind. Two young males with handguns approached him when he stopped and got out of the vehicle after the crash. One suspect demanded the victim surrender his belongings.
Both suspects fled the scene in the stolen Volvo. Another suspect continued to drive the Kia.
Using Volvo's tracking system, officers followed the vehicle. Eventually, Garfield Heights Police officers found the Volvo backing into a parking spot behind a building in Garfield Heights.
Solon Police recovered the Volvo and a loaded semi-automatic 9mm pistol.
The suspect initially ran from the police, but officers eventually caught him.
18-year-old Thomas Williams was arrested and is being held on a $135,000 case or surety bond. Williams is being charged with the following:
- Aggravated Robbery (F1)
- Receiving Stolen Property (F5)
- Having Weapon Under Disability (F3)
It is believed that three or four suspects were involved in the robbery. All of the suspects are described as "young black males, possibly teenagers."
