PARMA, Ohio — The Parma Police Department has announced the passing of Officer Kandice Straub.
In a Thursday evening post on the department's Facebook page, Parma police did not provide any details regarding the manner of Officer Straub's death. According to the post, Straub joined the Parma Police Department in December of 2019, and was the first female officer to be appointed to the Parma Police SWAT Team.
“We are deeply saddened by Officer Straub’s sudden passing," Parma Police Chief James Blair said in a statement included on Facebook. "She always lit up a room with her smile as well as her beautiful soul. Her courageous spirit was infectious to those she worked with. She was well respected by all who came into contact with her. She will be truly missed by our department and all those that knew her.”
Calling hours for Straub were held Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at the Ripepi Funeral Home in Parma. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at Mary Queen of Peace Parish on 4423 Pearl Road in Cleveland.
"Please keep Officer Straub’s family, friends, and coworkers in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," Parma police added in its Facebook post.
