ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — A Northeast Ohio baker is hoping to gain a spot in the final five of a national baking competition.
Kathy Schriner is the longtime owner of Kathy's Kolacke & Pastry Shop, which opened in Rocky River in 1991. She is competing in Buddy Valastro's "Greatest Baker" challenge, and you may all know Valastro as the "Cake Boss."
The competition features bakers from all around the world, with a focus on made-from-scratch recipes. It started back in November, and all of the money raised goes towards childhood cancer research.
So far, Kathy has advanced through four levels, but still has two more to go. She says it's her homemade kolackes that are keeping her going.
Right now, Kathy is ranking fourth in her group. In order for her to move on, she must get enough votes to move her up to first place. CLICK HERE to cast your vote for Kathy.
Voting for Group Finalists ends Thursday, Jan. 4 at 10 p.m. EST.
Kathy says if she wins the competition, she'll donate part of the $10,000 prize to local animal shelters.
