SOLON, Ohio — Solon Middle School wrestling coach Rob Farley has been placed on leave pending an investigation connected to an alleged misdemeanor assault of a student earlier this week.
Solon police tell 3News a report of assault was filed by a high school student and his parent "regarding an incident that happened during a wrestling practice" on Tuesday, when Farley was assisting with Solon High School's wrestling practice. That incident, according to the report was when Farley allegedly called the student a derogatory slur. Witnesses told police the student then cursed at Farley, and that's when he allegedly pushed the student's head with the bottom of his foot. The officer who responded said he saw a "red mark" on the student's left cheek, the report said. Farley allegedly told another coach he used the slur in a "joking" matter toward the student.
The victim's family told police that they requested criminal charges be filed against Farley. After a warrant was issued, Farley turned himself into police on Wednesday. He was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault and was released after posting bond.
Farley pleaded not guilty in Bedford Municipal Court at his arraignment on Wednesday. A pre-trial hearing has been set for Feb. 26.
