University Circle police rescue trapped kitten from shuttle bus; dispatcher adopts furry friend

The kitten, now named Opal, was trapped inside a shuttle bus on Tuesday. She is now living with a UCPD dispatcher.

CLEVELAND — Members of the University Circle Police Department prevented a "cat-tastrophe" from happening on Tuesday and in the process, helped a furry friend to find a permanent home.

According to University Circle Police Chief Thomas Wetzel, the department was notified by the driver of the Tudor Arms shuttle bus that a cat was stuck inside the vehicle that was parked on Carnegie Avenue.

Tudor Arms employees tried to get the kitten out of the bus for about an hour, but were unsuccessful.

Wetzel says two UCPD officers were dispatched to the scene and were able to capture the kitten within an hour. One of the officers needed to crawl under the bus in order to free the feline.

The kitten, now named Opal, was taken back to the University Circle police station. Wetzel reports that UCPD dispatcher Emily Beny fell in love with Opal and took her home.
