University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's to serve free lunches to children in various Northeast Ohio communities this summer

Every child between the ages of 1-18 years old is eligible to receive a meal through the program. There are no income qualifications to meet for eligibility.

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, Ohio — It's back! For the eighth straight year, University Hospitals and the Ohio Department of Education & Workforce's USDA Summer Food Service Program will come together to provide free lunches for kids in various Northeast Ohio communities. 

Every child between the ages of 1-18 years old is eligible to receive a meal through the program. There are no income qualifications to meet for eligibility in this program.

“We are so excited to be able to continue this program that offers children a hot, nutritious meal every weekday all summer long," said Kathie Wesolowski, Director, Women’s and Children's Community Outreach, UH Rainbow Babies & Children's. “Providing a delicious and fresh meal while also interacting with the families and sharing nutrition and safety education is one of our favorite community outreach initiatives.”

Below is a list of locations and dates where the service will be offered:

  • UH Ahuja Medical Center, 3999 Richmond Rd, Beachwood, OH 44122
        • June 3, 2024 – August 13, 2024
  • UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s, 2101 Adelbert Rd., Cleveland, OH 44106
        • June 3, 2024 – August 16, 2024
  • UH Elyria Medical Center, 630 East River Rd, Elyria, OH 44035
        • June 3, 2024 – August 21, 2024
  • UH Parma Medical Center, 7007 Powers Blvd, Parma, OH 44129
        • June 17, 2024 – August 31, 2024
  • UH Portage Medical Center, 6847 Chestnut St, Ravenna, OH 44266
        • June 3, 2024 – August 16, 2024
  • UH Samaritan Medical Center, 1025 Center St, Ashland, OH 44805
        • June 3, 2024 – August 16, 2024

Each location will be open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Children must consume the meals on the site of the program and will not be able to take the meals to go. 

In addition to the free meals, those who are in families who meet certain income requirements will be eligible to receive a free box of shelf-stable food for each child who participates in the program.
