WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — Last week, 3News was at the Granada Apartments in Warrensville Heights to report on the rodent problem plaguing residents.
Today, residents showed the dire living conditions some face due to unrepaired damage, neglect and infestations.
3News' Lydia Esparra spoke to a resident who wanted to show how she's been living for the past year.
The woman did not want to identify herself out of fear of retaliation. She said, "They had a water break in December of 2022. All the apartments under the boiler room got very damaged."
That was almost one year ago. Yet there is still no walls, flooring, and the apartment remains gutted from the damage.
"You start looking at it, and you know, I should be doing better than this."
A supposed living space with open pipes and no ceiling. She pays more than $700 every month to live in what looks like a warehouse.
Across the hall the woman's neighbor is dealing with similar issues. No carpeting and still missing a wall. He too has lived like this for the past year.
On the sixth floor of the building, a resident is dealing with rodent and roach problem.
From the surface, her living space looks great. But taking a closer look, three months ago a closet was fixed but the wall is buckling again. Her bath tub was recoated, but now that is starting to fail. Only recently she finally got her hot water back after months of cold showers
A group of residents went to city council last Tuesday to address their concerns. They invited 3News into their apartments to show the conditions they are tired of living in.
The residents of the Granada Apartments are hoping for a Christmas miracle.
At last weeks city council meeting Benjamin Brown, the building commissioner, said he finally got hold of the building owners and that they are looking to hold them responsible for the conditions.
Although some residents tell 3News no one has come to see them despite their numerous complaints.
