MIDDLEFIELD, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle crash involving a school bus in Geauga County.
The crash happened on Friday morning at around 7:41 a.m. on Route 87 in Middlefield Township.
Preliminary investigation reveals that a Cardinal Local Schools bus was stopped in the eastbound lane while boarding students. Authorities tell 3News that a Nissan pickup truck was stopped behind the school bus when it was rear-ended by an Isuzu flatbed truck.
OSHP troopers say the impact caused the Nissan to strike the rear of the school bus. The Nissan then went off the side of the roadway and overturned. The Isuzu then hit the rear end of the bus.
Officials say the driver of the Nissan and the Isuzu sustained minor injuries and were taken to University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. Additionally, the school bus driver and the four occupants of the school bus did not report any injuries.
State Route 87 has reopened in Geauga County after a portion was closed between Route 528 and Hayes Road in Middlefield Township due to the bus crash.
Cardinal Local Schools Superintendent Jack Cunningham released the following statement after the crash:
