CHESTERLAND, Ohio — Many rushed to stock up in Geauga County after power went out following severe storms Thursday night.
"No power, no water, no food," Peter Berk lamented.
Berk lives in Russell Township. He has well water like most others in the county, and says when power goes out, so does their water supply.
"When there's no power, the well does not go and give you the water," he explained, "because the pump works on electricity."
Over in Chesterland, Turney's Home & Auto Center was completely sold out of generators Friday morning.
"We're fortunate to have some power, because obviously on a day like today, we want to be there for the community so people can get what they need to be able to carry on with their lives," general manager Doug Levin said.
The storm damage was widespread across the county, with trees down on power lines, blocking streets and even on at least one home. As of Friday evening, more than 14,000 of Geauga's FirstEnergy customers were still in the dark, including more than a quarter of Russell Township's population.
According to FirstEnergy, electricity may not be fully restored until Wednesday.
