Madison Schools to reopen Friday after closing due to threat made against high school

Officials found the threats to be credible.

Madison Schools will reopen Friday after threats were made against the High School on Wednesday. 

The Madison Township Police Department, with the help of the FBI, the secret service and other agencies, investigated the threat and found that the threat was not directed at Madison High School.

"Madison Local Schools has zero tolerance for threats of violence. It does not matter if the threat is “real” or not. All threats are taken seriously and treated as such by both the school district and the Madison Township Police Department," joint statement from Madison officials read.

According to officials anyone who makes any type of threats against the school could face expulsion and criminal charges. 

"This has been a stressful and challenging time. We appreciate all of the community and students who came forward with their concerns regarding this situation," read the statement.

Last night, Madison Local Schools administration was made aware of a social media threat potentially targeting Madison High School. While we believed the threats were not credible to Madison High School, we have an obligation to protect our students and staff and keep them safe. Out of an abundance of caution, we made the decision to close all schools today. Other schools in the area were also impacted by the alleged threat.

The Madison Township Police Department investigated the threat in conjunction with the FBI, the United States Secret Service and other area police departments through last night and throughout today. As we suspected, the threat was not directed at Madison High School. Classes will resume as scheduled on Friday, December 17, 2021.

Madison Local Schools has zero tolerance for threats of violence. It does not matter if the threat is “real” or not. All threats are taken seriously and treated as such by both the school district and the Madison Township Police Department. An individual who makes a threat against the school could face expulsion and possibly criminal charges.

This has been a stressful and challenging time. We appreciate all of the community and students who came forward with their concerns regarding this situation. In terms of activities, all weekend athletic contests will go on as scheduled. The Holiday Band and Choir concert scheduled for tonight, has been rescheduled for Monday, December 21, 2021 at 7:00 p.m
