MENTOR, Ohio — A 22-year-old Wickliffe man has been arrested amid allegations that he fled the scene of a crash in which a bicyclist was struck last month.
The incident happened on Friday, Oct. 21, at 11:23 p.m. at the intersection of Reynolds Road and Texas Avenue, according to Mentor police.
That's where 64-year-old Michael Hewitt of Willoughby was sideswiped by a 2010 Ford Focus while riding a bicycle. Hewitt was taken to Hillcrest Hospital after the crash, but police say he was released the next day.
Upon completion of their investigation, police say a warrant was issued for the suspect's arrest on Nov. 10. That suspect, identified as Dominic Liuzzo, has now been taken into custody on the following charges:
- Vehicular assault
- Failure to stop after an accident
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of marijuana
Liuzzo is scheduled to appear in Mentor Municipal Court on Nov. 28.
