Elyria man found dead, woman wounded in 'related incident'

As of now, there has been no confirmation from Elyria police or medical professionals as to how the man sustained the fatal injury.

An Elyria man is dead and a 19-year-old woman wounded in what police are calling a 'related incident'.

At approximately 3:32 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Elyria Police responded to a 911 call from an address in the 100 block of Denison Avenue. The caller reported a man laying motionless in a roadway.

Upon arrival, police found the man, identified as 19-year-old Donovan P. Meinke, dead in the roadway with a firearm next to him.

As of now, there has been no confirmation from Elyria police or medical professionals as to how the man sustained the fatal injury.

At the same time, 19-year-old Amarionna Edwards arrived at University Hospital Elyria suffering from a gunshot wound. After interviewing the woman, police were able to establish that "the incident appears to be isolated to the parties involved and there is no threat to the community."

The incident remains under investigation.
