LORAIN, Ohio — The Lorain Police Department is investigating after a 6-year-old boy was killed as a result of a dog attack.
According to a press release, the incident happened at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Police say officers were called to a home in the 1700 block of East 31st Street regarding a child "who had been attacked by a family dog."
As officers began investigating the incident, Lorain police officials say they were notified that the boy was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the attack.
The Lorain Police Detective Bureau and the Lorain County Coroner's Office responded to the scene "to continue the investigation."
"At this time, no further details are available as the investigation is still ongoing. The Lorain Police Department wishes to thank the Friendship Animal Protective League for their response and assistance during this investigation. Further details will be released at a later date," Lorain police officials added in its release.
