LAGRANGE, Ohio — A 24-year-old man has died following a Sunday evening shooting in LaGrange.
It was around 8:35 p.m. when deputies were dispatched to scene of the shooting in the 17200 block of Whitehead Road, according to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the caller had advised dispatch that he believed the shooting victim – identified as Christopher Sayers Jr. of Elyria – had died.
“An ambulance was immediately called and placed on standby until deputies could secure the scene,” the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Monday.
Upon their arrival, authorities found Sayers had been shot in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene after lifesaving efforts were made.
“The case is still under investigation at this time and no charges have been filed,” authorities said.
Two firearms were recovered.
The Lorain County Sheriff’s Office also noted that this was not a random shooting.
“All individuals involved in this incident were known to each other. This incident appears to have occurred after a child custody exchange. …”
