LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash on State Route 2 that involved five vehicles and seriously injured two people late Thursday afternoon in Lorain County.
Troopers say the crash happened just after 5:15 p.m. on Route 2 eastbound just east of the Vermilion Road exit in Brownhelm Township. Traffic on the highway had come to a stop due to a previous accident. A Lexus LX driven by a 62-year-old Middleburg Heights man was not able to slow down in time and crashed into the back of a Ford F-250 pickup truck, causing a chain reaction that impacted three other vehicles.
The Ford truck was driven by a 19-year-old Huron woman with a 20-year-old Monroeville man as passenger. The rear impact caused the F-250 to crash into a Ram pickup truck, driven by a 32-year-old Mississippi man. The Ram hit a Ford Fusion, which was driven by a 37-year-old Huron man. Finally, the Fusion made contact with a Lincoln MKC, with a 26-year-old Vermilion woman driving and a 2-year-old girl as passenger.
The crash closed Route 2 eastbound for approximately three hours on Thursday evening.
Troopers report that the 62-year-old Lexus driver sustained serious injuries and was taken by Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center. The 20-year-old male passenger was also flown to MetroHealth Medical Center after being first transported to Mercy Health Lorain Hospital.
The driver of the Ford F-250 was taken to Mercy Health for minor injuries. The 2-year-old girl was also transported to Mercy Health for precautionary reasons. There were no other injuries reported.
All of the people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts and child safety seats.
