GRAFTON, Ohio — A man who shot his wife, then barricaded himself inside of his Grafton home, has died after fatally shooting himself in the head.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were called to the scene of a SWAT standoff at a home in the 1000 block of Hunters Chase Road on Tuesday morning.

According to officials, at around 11 a.m., the 60-year-old man shot his 53-year-old wife three times after trapping her in their garage. She got away and found a Grafton police officer on Route 57 who was able to render first aid.

Grafton Police say the man was confronting his wife about their separation. She told him that she did not want to reconcile, which prompted him to begin chasing and eventually shooting her.

The Lorain County SWAT unit was called up to go to the house. Negotiators were unable to make contact with the man, who was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The woman was taken to an area hospital and was treated for non-life threatening wounds.
