CLEVELAND — Two people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries after a fire caused significant damage to their home in Elyria, the city's fire chief said.
Chief Joseph Pronesti said in a news release that the fire started in a house on Brandtson Avenue on Elyria's north side around 4 a.m. Sunday.
The house's two residents were transported to a University Hospitals center for smoke exposure and "minor injuries," the chief said.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and found "heavy fire conditions" on the back side of the house, which threatened two nearby houses.
Fire crews "quickly" extinguished the fire, Pronesti said. Crews were on the scene for about two hours.
The house is now uninhabitable, Pronesti said. The fire is estimated to have caused around $35,000 in damages.
