NASA makes 'HERstory' with first all-female spacewalk

Astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir were a part of “HERstory in the making” with NASA’s first all-female spacewalk.

On Friday, astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir were a part of “HERstory in the making” with NASA’s first all-female spacewalk, and it was a topic of discussion on Lunch Break with Jay Crawford.

Koch and Meir ventured outside the International Space Station for spacewalk 421.

The women were expected to spend about five hours in space while they replaced a broken battery charger.

The walk was supposed to happen in March, but it was canceled because there weren’t enough spacesuits that would fit a woman’s body in the space station.

Men have floated outside the hatch on all 420 spacewalks prior to today. There are four men on the International Space Station right now, but they will all stay inside today. NASA has called today’s events “HERstory in the making.”

Jay lunched with 3News’ Maureen Kyle, and the two chatted about what a crucial moment this was for women of all ages.
